parapod consists modules which express a certain individuality in each module while acting as a one unit from which the modules stem out of. to emphasize the importance of northern light to each studio space, parabolic surfaces are used to influence and manipulate the north facade, creating shifts in floor plates which form outdoor spaces specific to each unit.
parapod. located in the center of the warehouse district, an environment where the vernacular expresses no individuality, instead a cluster of individual units enclosed behind a box facade. parapod challenges the vernacular by removing the exterior skin (facade) which begins to express the units individually while maintaining some homogeneity through the continuity and fluidity of the materials as well as form. the modules stem and deform from a central core expressed through the interpretation of a biomorphic flower and pods. this representation further enhances the relationship between the local artistic community and how architecture expresses those traits through programmatic variation and formal gestures.
